The retrieval of useful information from the high-resolution distributed monitoring system developed by the authors is accomplished by means of signal processing techniques, such as digital frequency filtering and empirical mode decomposition. It is shown that in the proposed approach, there is no need to recourse to an analog-to-digital converter and a photodetector. Moreover, the OFDR data recovery is performed using the equal-frequency re-sampling algorithm, which makes it possible to maintain high resolution and good repeatable accuracy of measurements.
