An experimental method for measuring binodal curves of magnetic fluids undergoing a phase transition of the “colloidal gas – colloidal liquid” type and a stepwise algorithm for laboratory measurements and numerical data processing were proposed.
A bidisperse model was used to describe the colloid composition. The hydrodynamic particle concentration is calculated using first-order thermodynamic perturbation theory. Four magnetic fluid samples with different size distributions of colloid particles were studied.
It is shown that binodal curves reflect the individual properties of samples, which makes it possible to describe and predict their colloidal stability at any combination of temperature and external magnetic field.
