From 6 to 10 July, the 9th All-Russian Conference on Free-Boundary Problems was held in Akademgorodok, Novosibirsk. This scientific event, distinguished by its rich content and wide range of applications – from technological processes to ecology and sustainable use of natural resources – has been held every three years since 2002. During this time, the conference has hosted scientists in Biysk, Barnaul, Krasnoyarsk and Tomsk.
As is traditional, the conference was co-organised by leading institutes of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (the M.A. Lavrentiev Institute of Hydrodynamics, the S.S. Kutateladze Institute of Thermophysics, and the Institute of Computational Modelling at the FRC KSC SB RAS) and the largest universities in the Siberian region (NSU, AltSTU, ASU, SibFU, TSU).
Among the participants were scientists from the Perm Krai. Professor T.P. Lyubimova, head of the laboratory of computational hydrodynamics at the ICMM UrB RAS (a branch of the PFRC UB RAS), delivered a plenary report on the dynamics of surfactants in the “solid particle – gas bubble” system, with a focus on flotation separation technologies. A.A. Alabuzhev, a senior research fellow at the same laboratory, presented two papers: one on the influence of substrate properties on non-linear bubble oscillations and the other on the influence of vertical vibrations on thermocapillary convection in a thin film.
A.I. Mizev, Director of the ICMM UrB RAS and Head of the Laboratory of Hydrodynamic Stability, presented a paper on the convective mixing of reagents in a microchannel due to the Marangoni effect and highlighted the results of an experimental study into the structure of waves and flows generated by an oscillating semi-submerged sphere.
Scientists from Perm have been taking part in this conference since the very first forum, held in Biysk in 2002. The next, anniversary, conference is also scheduled to take place in Biysk in 2029. Regular participation in the conference helps to strengthen ties between the Perm scientific school and Novosibirsk’s Akademgorodok, as well as other research centres in Russia.
