Scientific research and experimental design developments

The Institute of Continuous Media Mechanics of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (ICMM UB RAS) conducts certification testing (Test Laboratory Accreditation Certificate N GOST RU 9001.6.2.0042 registered in the State Standards on 18 January 1999) within the scope approved by the Normative Acts of the State Committee for Standards.

The Institute has a considerable number of developments of applied significance already being used or intended for use at different enterprises of Perm region:

• Application of magnetic fluids in the treatment of external intramural fistulas.
• MHD-pumps for transportation of liquid metals with a melting point of 8500C (production rate 4 tonnes/hour, height of lift 12 meters, no rotating parts).
• Possible application of magnetic paints for providing extra protection of state papers against forgery.
• Induction annealing of long-length aluminum specimens (40 per cent system efficiency).
• Low-frequency inductor for aluminum wire coating drying (wire diameter more than 3 mm, 40 per cent inductor efficiency).
• Channel furnace for lead with direct induction heating.
• Electromagnetic sleeves transferring rotation in non-contact way.
• Conduction MHD-pump developing pressure to 2000atm (capacity 100 cm3/sec). The MHD-pump can be used in hydraulic cylinders to generate and control pressure.
• Waste recovery of ball bearings by applying MHD methods to separate abrasive, metal powder and oil fractions.
• Manufacture of stirrers for continuous casting of metals, alloys and metal-based composites
• Manufacture of polyethylene hoses for pressure reaching 200atm;
• Fabrication of high-accuracy articles (e.g., sealing elements) with improved physical-mechanical properties (as compared to raw materials) from polytetrafluoroethylene or its compositions.
• Manufacture of magnetoplastic articles of different shapes;
• Investigations in the field of agriproduct processing using extrusion techniques.
